laying decking in near constant drizzle…

… mixed with a good bit of hard rain every now and then, just to make sure my ass was sufficiently soaked.

the 10×10 quick shade works wonders keeping the power tools dry… and keeping me from being shocked: damned hitachi compound miter saw is un-grounded. why? got me.
since there was virtually no wind, the rain fell straight down… making the shelter a pretty good work area. “good” is a relative term, i suppose… good compared to working directly in the rain. working directly in the rain is what i was doing while measuring, placing, forcing and nailing the boards. rain running down your crack isn’t so great when you’d like to stay warm and dry. years ago, i was a welder. welding in the rain really sucks… got all the normal stuff like getting wet… but add ‘getting shocked’ to the fun. so i guess this isn’t really all that bad…

deck boards will all be trimmed once they’re all on…

didn’t get a lot done before nightfall… started pouring pretty well around 6pm, so i put everything away and went inside. moments later, the rain stopped. probably could have worked for another hour or so… but took a bath, instead.

i’m really dragging on this deck. it’s taken way longer than it should, so far. don’t know if i’m just working slower than i used to… or if i’m not spending a lot of actual time during the day on it… no clue. i haven’t been keeping track of time… but this deck is a 4 to 5 day project, for me (not counting the railings & pergolas). it’s been a lot more than 5 days. tomorrow i want to get the rest of the decking on, the one remaining girder on the lower deck, and hopefully cut the stair stringers. at that point, there’s no excuse to not trim the boards. then gotta wait for good weather so it can be treated. think i’m going to start on other projects (like insulation) before doing the railings…
